Hello Friends and Family,
Ryan and I are starting out on a new adventure. We have officially started the adoption process!! We are really excited and yet a bit nervous. This process is completely new to us and we really don't know what to expect through this journey other than we will be parents in the end. We will try keep this blog up to date so if you are ever curious where we are in the process you can look at our blog. But of course you are always welcome to call us or email to get more details.
So far we have only turned in our application for the infant program. The application was fairly brief but provided a very basic background on us. We also had to include a recent picture of the two of us. I used a picture from Ryan's work Christmas party. I think that we both looked happy and friendly in that picture and at this point I would think that is important. We also had to provide directions to our house, I am guessing that is for the home study process. Next week sometime we have to go in to our adoption agency to have our fingerprints taken and sign more papers. I have only had my finger prints taken once. No, it was not anything interesting it was just part of working at a bank. A background check and a credit check will soon follow. Our adoption agency is very thorough in making sure the adopted children go to a safe and secure home. So we are happy to provide any information that they ask for.
Our social worker has been great in answering all of my questions. When I email her she responds almost immediately. I am so glad that she is so friendly because we will be helping us with one of the most important adventures in our lives. We will be talking to her on a weekly basis now for possibly up to a year. She will be with us up to the day we go to the hospital to bring home Baby McLane.
In August we will have to attend adoption classes. Neither of us know what this classes are going to teach us but we look forward to each new step towards being a family of three. Right now there are over 10 families waiting for a infant. We are not eligible to be chosen yet, we have to have our home study completed and approved first. That process takes 2-3 months and usually requires a few visits to our home. Once our home study has been completed and approved we will have to make several scrap books for birth mothers to look through. Since the birth mothers get to choose the family for their baby there really is no estimated time on when we will be chosen. Those are some of the basic details that I know right now, I will be sure to post more as we go through this process.
